September Update

The new chapter (Day Thirty-One) has now been posted. The Research and Notes page has also been updated with two new documents. You’ll find the sources for these documents below.

Some of the margin comments on “Observations on the Social Structures of Captive Subgroup B Communities” came from a debate on whether or not SeaWorld’s research is of any use to researchers working with the Northern and Southern Resident orca populations. I thought I had links to some of these articles, but I’m not having any luck finding them.

The discussion of captivity and aggression was inspired by these articles and documents:

Former Trainer Says Killer Whale Captivity Causes Attacks

Recognizing, Preventing, and Controlling Aggression in Zoo Animals Including Killer Whales

Anatomy of a Killer Whale Incident

Once again, if you have any questions about the sources, please feel free to contact me.

And one more note – I should be updating regularly from now on. I got delayed this past month by a heavier-than-normal work load. So, you should look for updates the second week of every month.

Hope you’re still enjoying the story. If you have the time (or the inclination), you can head on over to the Contact Me page, and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!
